Pavel Yentynkeu, a hunter from the village of Nutepelmen, close to Vankarem, adjusted the harness of one his eight dogs pulling his sled. Many of the hunters of the region still prefer to use dogs to snow mobiles for transport and for hunting, as the sea and land are frozen for most of the year and also petrol is scarce and expensive in these distant villages.  Pavel is in favour of the renewal of hunting for polar bears and the right of the local Chukchi to use its meat for festive occasions.
