On the side of the road next to the abandoned and burnt out formerly Georgian populated village of Khekhvi, north of the South Ossetian capital Tskinval, and since the war deserted by its former inhabitants, lay the bodies of stray dogs that had been killed - an official said that the dogs had become savage since the departure of the villagers and had started to attack pedestrians.
