Edward Keating: Route 66, Motels
(25 photos)

Edward Keating's black and white images of the motels along Route 66 were featured over eight pages in the March/April 2008 issue of Preservation magazine. These motels, symbols of the golden age of American car culture, sprang up after WWII to lure newly mobile American tourists on their way out west. Today, part kitsch and plaintive, the remnants of these nostalgic monuments to the past dot the bypassed stretch of road from Missouri and Illinois, to Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico.
